Léonard Frey-Maibach

„Studied from 2011 to 2014 with Prof. Julius Berger for his Master degree in Augsburg, after graduating his Bachelor degree at the National Superior Conservatory in Paris in 2011. Currently 1. Solocello in the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and cellist of the Gewandhausquatett.

Julius Berger helps you find a way to be yourself, and do music about it; which is a very creative but also natural way to find new sounds, to appropriate yourself a music piece, to be convincing and solid about it.

His concept of the Cello class reflects a Family : Full of support, and understanding about being different.

With this base, Berger is led to concentrate on this „very distinctive detail“ of your personality in your play, and make it bloom until you become a unique person. I recall a great speech of his, after a long concert he invited the whole class to a restaurant, at the end he would raise his glass and say „lets all stay crazy !“

It is incredible to see the impact of a teacher on his students,  and i was happy to see it every week during Berger’s lessons and listening to my friends, if your teacher is a good person and a good musician, his education will most likely lead you to become both as well.“
